\n\tThe Weeknd<\/a>\u2018s \u201cRed Terror\u201d video sets a disturbing stop-motion scene for the track from Hurry Up Tomorrow<\/em>, Abel Tesfaye\u2019s new album and the ending to the trilogy that began with Dawn FM\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0After Hours<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tA young being experiences an unsettling transformation in what looks like an Upside Down-esque alternate dimension in \u201cRed Terror.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe music video is a visual interpretation of lyrics that seemingly have Abel addressing a child, from the perspective of a parent, with an allegorical title referencing the Ethiopian Red Terror, a period of violet political repression that resulted in the deaths of thousands in the late \u201970s. Abel was born in Canada and raised by<\/a> his mother and grandmother; his parents had emigrated from Ethiopia in the \u201980s.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe work\u2019s end credit screen displays that \u201cRed Terror\u201d is a film by Eddie Alcazar, known most recently (outside of his new work with Abel) for the science fiction thriller Divinity<\/em>, which was co-produced with Steven Soderbergh and debuted at Sundance in 2023.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn fact, Alcazar also helmed The Weeknd\u2019s dark \u201cOpen Hearts\u201d performance<\/a> on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> that aired ahead of the weekend. \u201cOpen Hearts\u201d got more than the typical late-night stage treatment \u2014 its last two minutes shifted to the showing of a cinematic production.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe latter half of \u201cOpen Hearts\u201d precedes what\u2019s to come in \u201cRed Terror,\u2019 and though they\u2019re not labeled as a part one and two, they arguably should be watched together.<\/p>\n

\n\tHurry Up Tomorrow<\/em>\u00a0features 22 tracks, including previously-released singles like the\u00a0Playboi Carti-assisted \u201cTimeless,\u201d which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and \u201cS\u00e3o Paulo\u201d with Anitta.<\/p>\n
